Morrie Movie Assignment

To me the movie and book are completely different, but the interview is close to what is said in the book. It seemed a lot like the movie was taking what was done and the book and trying to make it more interesting (failing horribly), then sprinkling in little parts of the book to make it more authentic. Such as the breath test. In the book they talked about the test for a little while before doing it but in the movie they just threw it in.

Unlike the movie, the interview did help me. It gave me a better idea of what Morrie was like. It also gave me a visual I can use when reading.

  1. I totally agree that the movie was trying too hard to be interesting. The book itself is good the way it is. If the movie was identical to the book, it would help the readers more if they happened to watch it while they were reading instead of confuse them. Morrie's nightline interview also helped give me a visual while reading.

  2. Good input from you both. I think (as far as tv movies go) it is a good adaptation of the story. But I would agree that in order for it to be a valuable piece of related material for using it in class, it would need to be much more in lined with the book.

  3. Sweet Blog Michael. I agree with you on that the movie didn't do a very good job of converting the book to a movie. They definitely could have done a better job. I mean, Oprah has enough money, she could have at least hired better actors... or a better director.

  4. I agree with you on the book and movie being completely different. If i were to watch the movie and try taking the test over the book i would fail because it skips a lot of the important information. Everything you said was similar to what i had to say. Go Mik.
